MOM actor Akshaye Khanna on his sabbatical: Not working was a torturous phase
Akshaye Khanna will be seen playing the role of a baddie in Sridevi’s MOM.
Akshaye Khanna was recently seen as a baddie in Varun Dhawan-John Abraham starrer "Dishoom" and is now busy promoting his next film Mom that features Sridevi in the lead. The film, which is directed by Ravi Udyawar, is scheduled for July 7 release this year.

Actor Akshaye Khanna, who has starred as a lead in several films, says he has consciously decided to take up smaller but effective roles in his second innings in Bollywood.

Akshaye was recently seen as a baddie in Varun Dhawan-John Abraham starrer Dishoom and is now busy promoting his next film Mom that features Sridevi in the lead. “I decided, having taken an off of four years, I wanted to start off with slightly smaller roles to get into that zone. But I was sure I won’t do it by compromising on the quality of work. The role could be small, but it should have an impact in the story,” Akshaye.

Akshaye was recently seen as a baddie in Varun Dhawan-John Abraham starrer “Dishoom” and is now busy promoting his next film Mom that features Sridevi in the lead.

“I decided, having taken an off of four years, I wanted to start off with slightly smaller roles to get into that zone. But I was sure I won’t do it by compromising on the quality of work. The role could be small, but it should have an impact in the story,” Akshaye. Akshaye, 42, who has been working since the age of 19, was away from the silver screen for four years due to personal reasons. The actor says he felt tortured while he was not doing films. “There was a reason why I took a sabbatical. I had some personal reasons which didn’t allow me to work. But there has never been a point in my life where I wanted to take things slow, or I don’t want to work. Besides work (acting), there is nothing I know or can do. I have been working nonstop since I was 19 so not working is torturous. That phase has gone now.”

Even though he was away from films for a while but Akshaye refrains from calling the phase as his ‘comeback’.  I won’t say it’s my ‘comeback’. There were some reasons because of which I couldn’t work. Now, it doesn’t matter what adjectives people give it. I am enjoying working now. “I am glad people enjoyed my role in ‘Dishoom’ and my role in ‘Mom’ is fantastic. In a way, both Nawazuddin Siddiqui (co-star) and I have extended cameos in the film. We may have had only 20 days of work but the impact (of our characters) is huge,” says Akshaye, who is playing an investigative officer in the movie.

Talking about his experience working with Sridevi, Akshaye says, “She has a very well defined space, no one can encroach that, and I respect that. It’s the best way to be. Especially someone as senior as her, she has every right to define the space she feels comfortable in. There is no ambiguity. But she is such a delight to work with. Not only her or Nawaz, but even the smallest of the roles in the film are so well etched out, it is amazing. The performances in the film are something to look out for.” Directed by Ravi Udyawar, the film is scheduled to release on July 7.

Captain of India’s cricket team in all formats, Kohli has earned the love of his fans after an impressive home season and a decent Champions Trophy campaign till the final. In April this year, he had become the most ‘liked’ cricketer on Facebook as well as Instagram. He has now created a space for himself at the top to become the most followed celebrity with a good margin, leaving Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra behind. The cricket captain enjoys 3,57,25,719 fans on Facebook, 16 million followers on Twitter, 14 million on Instagram to become the most famous cricketer of all times around the world. Out of the 35 million plus fans on Facebook, 83% are Indians, followed by 5% from Bangladesh. Kohli seems to have a strong fan base in arch-rivals Pakistan as well with over a lakh fans.

In his last two posts on Facebook, his engagement with fans touched more than 7 million easily. On June 21, the cricket star changed his profile picture which fetched him 732 thousand likes, 2,070 shares and around 10 thousand comments from fans across the world.

In terms of celebrities, Virat Kohli leads the pack with Salman Khan narrowly behind him.

Kohli is now with his team on the Carribean soil for a five-match ODI series and a T20 against hosts West Indies. He has been in the news recently for being held as the reason for Anil Kumble’s decision to step down as the head coach of the national team.

The 28-year-old batsman also features in the list of the fastest growing sports stars pages on Facebook, led by football greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. All the top ten athletes include footballers except Kohli and American wrestler John Cena.

Virat Kohli’s popularity is mostly felt in the sub-continent with India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal contributing a sizeable number.

To gauge the extent of his popularity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only Indian with more likes on Facebook than Kohli at 42.2 million.

Simran actor Kangana Ranaut: At the age of writing love letters, I started struggling
Kangana Ranaut was recently on the chat show, Anupam Kher’s Peoplem, where the 30-year-old actress shared that at the age when people write love letters and go on blind dates, she was busy working, with the talented people like Mahesh Bhatt and work for long hours.
At the age of 17, Kangana Ranaut was already in a do or die situation.

Kangana Ranaut, known for leading life on her own terms, recently opened up on her struggling days and rebellious life. While speaking to Anupam Kher, on his chat show Anupam Kher’s People for a leading channel, the 30-year-old actress said, at the age of writing love letters and going on blind dates, she was busy working, with “talented” people like Mahesh Bhatt.

“At the age when girls write love letters or go on blind dates, I used to work for long hours. I used to sit with intellectual people like Mahesh Bhatt and other social thinkers and talented artists and when you sit with people like them as a teenager, you can’t actually say anything,” she said.

Adding, “I never got the time to play around and being a kid. When I was a teenager I already started struggling and I used to be on the sets. At the age of 17, I was already in a do or die situation. I have always been rebellious and I left my home at an early age, hence I could never get the time to be like a kid.”

She also spoke on nepotism and the much-talked about debate she had with Karan Johar on his show Koffee with Karan.

“Honestly, the debate did not affect me at all. I am quite self-sufficient at this point of time in my life as I have also launched my own production house. I want to propagate my story and there should be nothing wrong about it. When Karan Johar posted a blog on nepotism, I felt it was more of a brainwash than being objective,” she said.

Adding, “Do these Bollywood kids know that it takes almost 10 years to build an audience and to get a critic. These star kids already start from a point where they have everything and they are not aware of the fact that for an outsider, it can take his entire lifetime to reach the starting point.”

The Queen star also divulged the details on what gave her the freedom to become the “quintessential bad girl.”

“It took me 10 years to taste success after her film Gangster because of an unfortunate incident I faced. Struggle changes a person so much that no matter how much anyone tries to show you down, it doesn’t affect you. Honestly, it gave me a freedom to become the quintessential bad girl.”

On the same note, the Tanu Weds Manu actress, who has been the target of several debates, when asked, is she someone who gets misunderstood easily, politely denied the statement saying, “I don’t think I am misunderstood because I am an unusual person with an unusual life. The ones who get me they are also unusual people. I don’t think I am misunderstood by a set of people I know but conventional people can have strong prejudice. Most of them who know me they know that she is someone who is hard to get.”

On the work front, the actress will next be seen in Hansal Mehta-helmed ‘Simran’ and later in Manikarnika—The Queen of Jhansi.

VIP 2 jukebox: Dhanush starrer’s music by Sean Roldan is electrifying, melancholic and moody.
VIP 2 audio: The Dhanush starrer will be accompanied by memorable and simple music, which is composed by music director Sean Roldan. This is the second collaboration between the two after Dhanush's directorial debut, Pa Paandi.
The audio of Dhanush and Kajol starrer VIP 2 was released on Sunday.

The audio of Dhanush’s upcoming film Velai Illa Pattathari 2 aka VIP 2 also starring Kajol, Amala Paul and Samuthirakani in important roles was launched today. The album follows the same pattern as Dhanush’s directorial debut Pa Paandi. Each song is centered around the lead character Raghuvaran. From “Life Of Raghuvaran -Nada Da Raaja” an electrifying rap song by Yogi B and Dhanush, which is the background score in the teaser to the theme song titled “Empress Arrives,” each title seems to be chosen with care.

There is one song titled “Raghuvaran Vs Vasundhara – Dooram Nillu” sung by Dhanush and Shaktishree Gopalan, which signifies an electrifying clash between Dhanush and Kajol, who plays the role of Vasundhara. “Torture Of Raghuvaran – Ucchathula”, which is also sung by Dhanush is a signature Dhanush track. It is steeped in failure, a sense of loss and confusion and Sean Roldan has given wings to these feelings beautifully with his musical notes.

The song titled, “Angel of Raghuvaran – Iraivanani Thandha Iraiviye” sung by Sean Roldan and MM Manasi is a melody. The lyrics written by Dhanush is simple and yet touching. It does have an Ilaiyaraaja feel, especially when you hear the chorus. This works even better for the song.

The highlight of the album is of course “Torture Of Raghuvaran – Ucchathula”, which starts of as a sad slow vent and you hear Sean in the background telling Dhanush that we might need a peppy song, as they reach for such songs is higher. Dhanush responds by starting off a really peppy ‘Kuthu’ number that is sure to become the anthem of all unhappy married men. Especially the lines “Kalyanam is a danger da mama (Marriage is a danger, my friend” is going to be echoing everywhere.

With this album Sean has yet again managed to give us some memorable songs. However, it has to be noted that BGM of VIP will always raise goosebumps, which is what is missing in this album. The trailer launch of the film directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth is happening in Mumbai, while the film is set to release on Dhanush’s birthday – July 22.

Nach Baliye 8: Sanaya Irani, Mohit Sehgal are the winners for audience, says poll
As Nach Baliye 8 is set to get its winner on Sunday, we asked the fans of the couple dance reality show to chose their most favourite jodi and cast their votes for the most deserving contenders for the Nach Trophy. And as we got more than 1500 votes on a Twitter poll, Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal emerged as the clear winners.
Nach Baliye 8: Sanaya Irani and Mohit Irani got the highest number of votes in a poll.

The stage is set for a star-studded finale night of Nach Baliye 8 which will be aired on Star Plus at 7.30 pm this weekend. On Saturday, we will see the star cast of upcoming movie Mubarakan, including the ‘Jhakkas’ Anil Kapoor along with his nephew Arjun Kapoor gracing the show for a second time. The movie’s leading ladies Ileana D’Cruz and Athiya Shetty will also join them. And on Sunday, it will be another heartthrob of the industry, Ranbir Kapoor who will come with his film Jagga Jasoos along with director Anurag Basu, to add excitement to the gala finale.

As Nach Baliye 8 is set to get its winner on Sunday, we asked the fans of the couple dance reality show to chose their most favourite jodi and cast their votes for the most deserving contenders for the Nach Trophy. And as we got more than 1500 votes on a Twitter poll conducted by indianexpress.com, Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal emerged as the clear winners with a margin of about 50 per cent votes. The couple who came second was Sanam and Abigail with a total of 28% votes, while television favourite bahu Divyanka Tripathi and her husband Vivek Dahiya stood last with only 21% votes. Though Sanaya winning the poll didn’t surprise us, it was Divyanka getting the least number of votes which raised questions about the popularity of TV’s most popular actor. Ever since Nach Baliye 8 commenced, Divyanka-Vivek have been garnering a lot of votes and love of their fans, despite getting average marks from the judges. Now it will be interesting to see who will take the trophy home on this ‘Romance Ki Jeet’ episode.

Who according to you should win #NachBaliye8?
